International Research Centre of Disaster Science and Sustainable Development

The International Research Center "Natural Disasters and Sustainable Development" aims to understand the complex interactions between natural disasters and societies, and to define socio-economic vulnerability as well as the pathways from research findings to political decision-making in the context of sustainable development.
This multidisciplinary program seeks to study all the factors involved in the risk chain linked to natural hazards that generate disasters (volcanic eruptions, earthquakes, tsunamis, storms, intense rainfall, floods, etc.), from the hazard itself to the consideration of its human, social, and economic dimensions, with the goal of reducing their impacts and consequences.
