Characterisation of industrial sites, assessment of their potential and development of innovative solutions for managing environmental impacts in the Montluçon Communauté area.

We are currently involved in a project to clean up industrial sites in Montluçon. The aim is to develop a "pilot" territorial project that has a potential for replication in the form of a public-private partnership between the Communauté de Montluçon, the Bureau de Recherches Géologiques et Minières (BRGM), SARL Biobasic Environnement and the Université Clermont Auvergne (Microbiology Laboratories, Chemistry Institute, International Research Centre on Sustainable AgroEcoSystems). This consortium of partners brings a wealth of expertise and   high-level skills.

The pilot project will be divided into three interdependent sub-projects

  • Inventory and characterisation of industrial sites (better knowledge of the activities on each site, assessment of the "pollution potential of these sites", creation of a geographical information system);
  • Development of a methodological framework for assessing the redevelopment potential of these sites in terms of redevelopment options of interest to the Montluçon community and the general and specific characteristics (including environmental characteristics) of these sites;
  • Development of innovative and sustainable pollution management technologies (based on nature) to promote the conversion of sites in line with the principles of sustainable development (sizing and validation of the feasibility of onsite treatment processes).

The objectives are to :

  • obtain detailed knowledge of polluted sites
  • validate innovative remediation methods
  • Implement bioremediation processes;
  • abtain a proof of concept so that the method can be replicated on other sites in France, in particular in other Territoire d'Industrie regions.

The project is managed by a Steering Committee representing all stakeholders.
